John DeGrace is a Professional Engineer and Professional Geoscientist who, for periods of years between 2007 and 2019 was Regional Geologist for North Central and Northeastern BC with the provincial Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. He has been active as a consulting geologist, and at present is working in project development for the mining sector with Industra Construction Corp. of Surrey, BC.
Prior to re-entering the exploration and mining sector, John enjoyed a long career in post-secondary administration. He was Director of Research Development, and then University Registrar, at the University of Prince Edward Island; and then moved to British Columbia in 2002 to become first Registrar, and then University Secretary, at the University of Northern British Columbia. He also worked as a consultant in Newfoundland, with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador as a survey geologist, as a Research Officer with the Library of Parliament, and as Director of Energy and Minerals with the Government of Prince Edward Island.
John has served on several Boards, including the Resources North Association (as Secretary), the Minerals North Society, the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer, and the Prince George Symphony Orchestra (as President).
The M-KMA includes Parks and Protected Areas where resource extraction is prohibited, and management zones where resource extraction may occur, according to higher standards than elsewhere in the province (e.g. best management practices for oil and gas development).
